9/11 Families Barred From Gitmo Trial

The alleged masterminds of the 9/11 attacks in the United States go on trial at Guantanamo Bay this week. Absent from the gallery will be relatives of those who died in the worst acts of terror in U.S. history.

Family members are understandably appalled by the decision.

Only one relative, a GOP functionary, has been secretly invited to attend.

The family members have a vested interest in seeing justice served. Precluding them from viewing the process is, at best, cruel.

In the minds of many Americans the very mention of Guantanamo conjures up images of torture and secrecy. It seems to me that the trials should take place where the attacks took place: NYC, Washington, DC and Pennsylvania and with the full glare of the public's eye on them. Without this, the conspiracy theorists will just have at least another hundred years to indulge in their lunacy. This time, I may not be able to blame them.
