Barr, a guest on News Talk Online on Paltalk.com, gave a tip of his political hat to Ron Paul, whose candidacy as a Republican for president of the United States paved the way, he said, for his own as a Libertarian.
Barr is anticipating that many Paul supporters will now join him in his quest for the White House.
Barr is a strong advocate for individual rights and privacy. So he expressed support for the Supreme Court decision granting detainees at Guantanamo Bay the right to be tried in a civilian court of law in the United States. His only regret: that the decision wasn't unanimous.
He also, among other things, explained his change of heart over the so-called war on drugs (he was for it, now against it); explained on his views about talking with Tehran and outlined his vision for withdrawal from Iraq.

There was a disappointment in the audience with the Bob Barr interview. We do not know why we were not permitted to question the candidate. If it was due to time constraints, because of the second topic, that would be understandable. However, if it was the candidate's request, we should be informed. The last thing this country needs is another presidency shrouded in secrecy. Americans have learned not to trust speeches.

A question I would have for Bob Barr if he returns again is what mechanissm does he see in place in a LIertarian government to regulate businesses as businesses per say are not founded on the premise of social good will unless there is profit in said good behavior but founded for the sole purpose of maximizing profit. Whereas the governemnt acts on the communities behalf to establish guidelines in order to protect the population from detrimental business practices. I once attended a business ethics class and was expelled for showing up. j/k.
The recent absurd 5-4 SCOTUS decision in Boumediene DID NOT grant "detainees at Guantanamo Bay the right to be tried in a civilian court of law in the United States." as Gary claims. it only granted access to habeus procedings in some cases. This decison ignores the Court's own legal precedent, the will of the people expressed by Congress, and the careful regulations established by the Pentagon to protect the American people from hostile terrorists. Sizable numbers of former Gitmo prisoners who had been deemed limited threats and released have shown up on battlefields or in terrorist attacks and killed or recaptured. Several have conducted suicide attacks on civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan. Imagine what the real bad guys being held at Gitmo might do if released. Apparently the liberal majority held that the terrorists' "freedom" to kill Americans and our allies, including civilians, trumps our legal right to retain them for the duration of hostilities. it is abundantly clear who the terrorists allies are in America, the liberal Left and its trial lawyer cabal.
The restoration of Habeas Corpus to the Guantanamo detainees halts the continual subversion of our basic rights by the Bush/Cheney government. Along with unlawful wire taps, this administration has pushed the limits of suppressing Democracy. What could stop them from suspending Habeas Corpus to all Americans on trumped up charges. Just suppose that someone in the administration did not like my post and decided I was a subversive, even though I am exercising my right to free speech, they could lock me away without charge. It can happen to anyone, not just "so called enemy combatants". If we are fighting to preserve our Democracy from the "Evil Doers", then we have to show them that no matter what, we are better than them. Why? Because we offer them the same protection of the law as any US citizen gets. Just by that alone, it proves our moral superiority over those who would wish our country harm.
