Thursday's topic on News Talk Online was human cloning and whether it would be an ethical practice if perfected.
There was a definite division of opinions based on the caller's religious beliefs. Or lack thereof.
Callers who stated they had strong religious beliefs argued that tinkering with human genetics is both dangerous and immoral. But those who were less religious had no such concerns, arguing that cloning could preserve help preserve the human race.

I dont think that we should clump the act of cloning into one group. There are many different types of cloning which are both beneficial and doesnt conflict with moral issues. But people seem to think of horror movies and the negative possiblities that can happen. When most of the cloning that is being studied is not in that direction.
There are many diseases that scientists and doctors are looking towards cloning for answers. Cloning just organs or body parts, skin, genes . Imagine the possibilities.
A child burned in a fire over most of his body but do to being able to clone his skin they can graft it on without worrying about rejection.
Or a woman finds out she has liver cancer, fatal. She will be able to have a transplant with a liver with her own genetic makeup without having to worry about rejection and having to take medicine for that for the rest of her life.
Now this is not cloning a whole human being. If you want to raise ethical questions, think of the morality of not helping sick people with cancer by changing cells because of the fear of the unknown.
These fears will never be overcome if we stop studying the possibilities. We have to be careful to not enter a new Dark Age void of light and learning.
We are human beings, and as such, we can do many things dumb animals cannot. Most importantly, we can reason and communicate on a higher level. but what we cannot do is forget that we are still mere human beings. We are not God and we should not try to play HIM.
The same goes for abortion. Abortionists kill God's children.
