News Talk Online On Location Live For The Annual Hold Their Feet To The Fire Event In Washington

Shaw - illegal immigrant charged
in his murder

Radio talk show hosts from across the nation will descend on Washington, DC tomorrow and Thursday for the annual Hold Their Feet To The Fire event, designed to draw attention to the debate over illegal immigration in the United States.

News Talk Online on Paltalk.com is the only Internet-based show participating.

Hold Your Feet To The Fire is sponsored by the Federation For American Immigration Reform.

Joining me as guests on Wednesday, September 11 at 5 PM New York time will be Monica Ramos, the wife of one of two U.S. Border Patrol agents imprisoned for wounding an escaping drug smuggler and Anita Shaw, mother of Jamiel Shaw Jr., a high school football star who was murdered, allegedly, by an illegal alien just blocks from his home in Los Angeles.

Ramos' husband Ignacio and Jose Alonso Compean began prison sentences in January 2007 of 11 and 12 years respectively for their actions in the shooting and wounding of a Mexican drug smuggler who was granted full immunity to testify against them.

"My husband is in jail for trying to capture a drug smuggler," Monica Ramos says.

She has unkind words for Pres. Bush.

"Let him tell my children that he wants new 'infrastructure' or 'comprehensive immigration reform' when their dad who wore the Border Patrol badge for years is shackled and in chains for doing his job."

Jamiel Shaw Jr. was 17 on March 2 when he was shot, allegedly by a gang member, Pedro Espinoza, 19. According to police, the shooting occurred one day after Espinoza was released from county jail where he was serving time for assault with a deadly weapon. Espinoza, a member of the 18th Street gang, was in the country illegally. He has been charged with capital murder.

Authorities say they do not know why Espinoza was not detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement upon his release from the county jail.

Anita Shaw is returning from U.S. Army active duty to attend Hold Their Feet To The Fire.

In addition to News Talk Online and nearly 50 radio talk show hosts, CNN's Lou Dobbs, who has been on the forefront of reporting on illegal immigration in the United States, will be broadcasting live from the event.

Radio American morning show host Doug Stephan and midday host Greg Knapp will also be broadcasting live from the two-day event. You can find them in the Radio American Interactive Chat room in the Radio/TV Section of Paltalk.
