Positive Images From Iraq

The news from Iraq has been largely negative. Most of the reporters have left, leaving the images they brought us of death and destruction as permanent fixtures in our minds.

But lately, the scene has changed in Iraq. As the photo above, shot by U.S. Pfc Todd Rogers of the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Calvary Division attests.

This mission, by U.S. troops, was to assist Iraqi police in distributing humanitarian supplies in the northern part of Amarah Province.

The American soldiers, writes Rogers, provided security while the police distributed the humanitarian items.

“Working with the Iraqi Police and going door to door with them to see families is both rewarding to me and the Iraqi police,” said 2nd Lt. Timothy Hayes, a fire support officer. “That’s the reason we are here, to help the citizens of Iraq.”

A great article by Rogers, if you read the entire thing. He shows a brighter side to the war.
