Italian Arrests Reminder Of Terror Threat

As the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks fade from our collective memories, many people have become complacent about the threat of terrorism.

In fact, there were detractors of the Bush administration who said they believe that its repeated attempts to remind us of the dangers were just fear mongering tactics.

But I can tell you that I've been briefed on several terrorist plots that have been thwarted in the United States since then. And today comes news of a European centered terrorist threat that was derailed by authorities in Italy.

Of course, the Italians didn't work alone on this caper. The suspected jihadists who were arrested are French nationals. So authorities there were involved in the bust. And, allegedly, their intended targets were in France and the UK. One of the places they were supposedly going to hit was Charles de Gaulle airport.

But here's the ominous part of the story. Time Magazine is reporting that authorities believe the guys they've arrested are part of a bigger terrorist network. So clearly, we're not out of the woods on this one yet.

We talk about issues like this and more weekdays at 5 PM New York time on News Talk Online on Paltalk.com

We have never been out of the woods, nor will we any time soon. The root of the problem is constantly avoided. They can change the terminology as much as they like but we are still subject to potential acts of terrorism. We are still under threat from people who disagree with our lifestyle, who believe it's their way or the highway.
Our politicians need to wake up and do what we elect them to do......... to defend our nations and keep our people safe. If the Politicians don't place human life at the forefront of their efforts then we should throw them under the bus. Politicians only exist at the will of the people. Kow-towing to foreign regimes for some pot of gold and a place for themselves in history will count for nothing when the next 9/11 or 7/7, or Madrid, or Bali, or Moscow, or Beslan, or Mumbai or... or ... or happens. Do you get my point?

I agree that we have become far too complacent -- our generation that is. I really believe, simplistic as it may sound, that we each need to make an effort to do a better job of educating our children about intolerance. Prejudice stems from ignorance. Terrorists are ignorant; they are brainwashed. We need to each make an effort to get to know other cultures, other people who are different from us. We need to get out of our comfort zones. We have a long way to go, but maybe we can get there. I hope and pray that one day there is peace in this world. We need to break the cycle of ignorance and prejudice for this to happen.
