As the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks fade from our collective memories, many people have become complacent about the threat of terrorism.
In fact, there were detractors of the Bush administration who said they believe that its repeated attempts to remind us of the dangers were just fear mongering tactics.
But I can tell you that I've been briefed on several terrorist plots that have been thwarted in the United States since then. And today comes news of a European centered terrorist threat that was derailed by authorities in Italy.
Of course, the Italians didn't work alone on this caper. The suspected jihadists who were arrested are French nationals. So authorities there were involved in the bust. And, allegedly, their intended targets were in France and the UK. One of the places they were supposedly going to hit was Charles de Gaulle airport.
But here's the ominous part of the story. Time Magazine is reporting that authorities believe the guys they've arrested are part of a bigger terrorist network. So clearly, we're not out of the woods on this one yet.
