What?!? Gov Picking Reality TV Show Winner As Running Mate

Lieutenant governor candidate?

While I work in New York City, truth is I live in New Jersey, something I don't normally mention because, well, the politics of the Garden State are, frankly, embarrassing. Wheeling and dealing. Public corruption. Resigning governors. It's a mess.

Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse comes a story in the Asbury Park Press which declares that Governor Jon Corzine is about to pick the winner of The Apprentice reality TV show as his running mate.

That's right - the lieutenant governor candidate on the Democratic ticket likely will be Randal Pinkett. Who by the way, is a successful entrepreneur and a Rhodes scholar to boot.

The paper says the governor is trying to keep this announcement under wraps until Thursday when President Obama visits New Jersey.

Corzine, a former Wall Street banker, is lagging in the polls and may be pulling this publicity stunt to breath fire into his struggling campaign. But here's a suggestion.

The Apprentice is the brain child of Donald Trump who is also known for putting on beauty pageants. Maybe Corzine should choose the winner of one of those contests if he really wants to attract attention to his campaign!

Well, a successful entrepreneur and a Rhodes scholar might not be a totally bad choice... (Of course, those qualifications don't necessarily preclude being an idiot or a psychopath...)

oh god, I'd heard the same thing. Yeah, Rhodes Scholar and all but let's not pretend this isn't about PR and more PR.

Chris Daggett is running as an Independent. Maybe we can show him some love?

perhaps they could cinch the election by having the opposing candidates sell the most ice cream, or sandwiches or whatever other goofy stuff the Apprentice morons do on the show.

and the winner could be declared by DT himself....one is hired and other fired. gives new meaning to reality government....

Yeah, it's not like other celebrities have ever been in office. Like that Republican actor who starred with a chimp, what was his name again? Or that Republican Senator who was on the Love Boat, or the one who was on Law and Order, or the one who was married to Cher. It may be just a stunt but at least this guy is educated.

Randall Pinkett was an impressive young man. I loved it when Trump got into a snit and tried to "dilute" the award by insisting that Randall share it with a truly fourth rate second place contestant. Randall said "It's the apprentice, not the aprentii!"

Corzine could do worse.

Because a breast enhanced bimbo is a MUCH better choice in a running mate.
