Sheriff To Feds: What Part Of 'Illegal' Don't You Understand?
Agents of the schizophrenic U.S. government put their lives on the line everyday along the Mexican border chasing illegal immigrants streaming across the border. Most of them are coming here to seek a better quality of life. But others are trafficking in drugs and are dangerous people. The recent killing of a Border Patrol agent serves to graphically and tragically illustrate this.
But in Arizona, the feds are telling the cantankerous sheriff of Maricopa County to stop arresting illegal immigrants who haven't done anything else wrong.
Predictably Sheriff Joe Arpaio is defiantly ignoring the feds. He says he has sworn to uphold the laws and if people are illegal in his county, then he's going to continue ordering his deputies to arrest them.
What does our public policy say? If you are in the country illegally and caught in close proximity to the border then you're incarcerated and shipped back? But if you manage to make it north three hours by car to Phoenix then you're permitted to stay in the country without fear of arrest and deportation?
