Gay Marriage Legalized In Mexico City

In the United States, the Catholic Church has been on the forefront of efforts to prevent legislation that legalizes gay marriage, saying that marriage is a union between a man and a woman.

But in Mexico, where nearly 90 percent of the people identify themselves as Catholic, the church has been unsuccessful in stopping the legalization of gay marriage in the capital city.

In addition to approving same-sex marriages, Mexico City's legislative council has voted to permit gay couples to adopt children.
