Many people in New York City are enraged that five Guantanamo Bay detainees will be tried on terrorist charges in their city. They don't want them in New York.
But the town of Thompson, Illinois apparently is ready to receive detainees from the detention facility in Cuba. They've petitioned the White House to send them there - because a state correctional facility in their community is nearly empty (there are not enough state funds to keep it running on full) and they need the jobs sending them there would create.
The White House is set to give Thompson the nod today.
