President Declares Major Disaster In Virginia/Louisiana

President Obama has declared a major disaster for Virginia as a result of flooding during and following Tropical Depression Ida last month.

The declaration frees up FEMA funds to help six counties and seven cities for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the storm and the flooding.

Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures for all counties in Virigina.

The president made a similar declaration for Louisiana to supplement state and local recovery efforts in areas struck by severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding from October 29 to November 3, 2009.
