2 Terrorist Suspects Arrested In New York
Two alleged associates of Najibullah Zazi, who was arrested last year in connection with an alleged terrorist plot in New York, were also taken into last night on charges that they are involved in an al Qaeda cell.
The government alleges that the men, identified as Adis Medunjanin and Zarein Ahmedzay, attended a terrorism training camp in Pakistan with Zazi. Zazi denies the allegation.
Former federal prosecutor Robert Mintz says this is an indication that the Zazi case is far more serious than had been previously been reported.
“These arrests indicate that federal authorities believe that the Zazi case may have posed an even more dangerous threat than initially reported," said Mintz, a partner with McCarter & English.
"Prosecutors are clearly under pressure to aggressively pursue these types of very serious allegations in order to try to discover the full scope of any alleged terrorist plot and bring to justice all of those who may have been involved.”
