British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has ordered the installation of full body scanners at airports in that nation.
Officials at Heathrow Airport say they will purchase and install them as quickly as possible.
Several U.S. airports are also getting the scanners - but only at limited terminals and security checkpoints due to cost constraints.
Security officials say the scanners would have detected the chemicals that were hidden in the underpants of a man charged with attempting to blow up a Northwest Airlines flight over Michigan on Christmas Day. Civil liberty groups - citing privacy concerns - oppose the scanners.
