Muslim Group Cancels March In British Town That Honors Returning Troops
A Muslim group that had planned to march through the town where returning British soldiers march and where the townspeople come out to honor them as well as the British casualties of war have canceled the event following widespread opposition.
Some 185,000 people had signed a Facebook petition protesting the march. And Prime Minister Gordon Brown had termed the planned gathering "abhorrent and offensive."
The group had planned the march to protest the British involvement in the war in Afghanistan and to focus attention on the Muslims who have died in the conflict.
