Reid's Racial Comments About Obama Prompt Apology

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who already faces an uphill reelection battle in Nevada, faces a new controversy today for private remarks he made that found their way into a book.

Reid is quoted as saying, prior to the presidential election, that the nation was ready to embrace a "'light-skinned' African American 'with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one." A reference to then-candidate Barack Obama's skin tone and dialect.

Reid is apologizing for the remark.
