Brooklyn DA Charles Hines had steadfastly refused to release the names of convicted sexual offenders in the orthodox Jewish community. Detractors said he was buckling to pressure from orthodox leaders. Hines said he was protecting the victims by withholding the names of the perpetrators.
Stinging from criticism from his opponent in his reelection bid, Hines is now releasing the names of nearly 50 orthodox Jews who have been convicted as sexual predictors. But in an interview with me for 1010 WINS, Gary Moskowitz, a rabbi and former New York City cop, says Hines had a responsibility all along to release the information. And says those orthodox leaders who have been sweeping this kind of untoward activity in their community under the carpet are wrong.
