Why is this train sitting uncoupled at Newark Penn Station? Because the locomotive that was attached on Track 3 caught fire while some 300 people prepared to embark on the ride to Virginia. They shut down the power so firefighters could put the blaze out. But that meant New Jersey Transit trains behind this one came to a halt - and with no power - not only could they not move the trains, but the passengers had to sit in hot cars with no air conditioning for nearly an hour-and-a-half.

I covered this inconvenience in travel for 1010 WINS.
