GETTING READY FOR GRIDLOCK ON NEW YORK'S EAST SIDE
Some of the barricades, like this one, are already up near the UN. But this is just a precursor of what's to come when the General Assembly opening schedule kicks off. Bringing heads of state and foreign ministers to New York. And the resulting gridlock around the United Nations.
But interestingly, most of the people who live in the neighborhood who I interviewed for 1010 WINS aren't too upset. Some say they actually feel safer with the extra security. And say the cops who check IDs before letting folks through security checkpoints are so well versed in the procedure that the inconvenience is minimized.
