THEY THOUGHT THE BUILDING WAS ABOUT TO FALL DOWN ON TOP OF THEM
The people living in this 7-story apartment building on 6th Ave. in Soho were evacuated after it started swaying and cracking and creeping. They were afraid it might come tumbling down so they called the city. But after five hours, city structural engineer Timothy Lynch said it's safe, and he sounded the all-clear, which we announced on 1010 WINS. The problem, Lynch says, is they are building a 16-story structure next door and they are underpinning the foundation below the apartment building. So it's an inconvenience. But it's safe.
More on the story from 1010WINS.
