VIGILS HELD COMMEMORATING 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF SANDY
This man was one of those attending a candle light prayer vigil at Staten Island's Midland Beach. An interfaith service remembering those who died during Sandy. And to pray for the recovery of those whose homes were so badly damaged. There were stories of hope - of those who have shown resiliency and who have rebuilt. And of despair. Those who haven't received promised insurance money or government assistance to move back. Then there are the empty lots, representing homes that have been taken down - never to return. Kathy, who I interviewed for 1010 WINS, stayed when others left. Refusing to take ''no'' from her insurance company. Helping her get through it all, Maeve, a woman from Chelsea, who showed up at what was left of her doorstep saying, "I'm here to help." A stranger then. A friend today.
More from 1010 WINS.
