CONTROVERSY SURROUNDS SOCCER STADIUM PROPOSAL NEAR YANKEE STADIUM

New York City is considering constructing a professional soccer stadium almost directly across the street from Yankee Stadium. They'd get the park land virtually rent free for nearly four decades. On the one hand, another professional team in the area may help gentrify the South Bronx. On the other hand, Geoffrey Croft of the New York City Parks Advocates says in an interview for 1010 WINS, the land should be used for a park if the parking structure on it is going to be demolished. Which, of course, is what is proposed.
