NEW COCKROACH STRAIN DISCOVERED IN NEW YORK CITY
They are from Asia and they apparently got here hitching a ride with exotic plants (maybe like this one? I don't know) that were planted on the High Line - the elevated park on an abandoned railroad right-of-way on Manhattan's West Side. We're talking here about a new strain of cockroach discovered along the park. Some of the visitors to the High Line who I interviewed for 1010 WINS wonder if they will proliferate. The scientists are betting they won't. Because they are competing for the same space and food that native New York roaches are. You know, sort of like people who are newcomers to the Big Apple!
