STAN BROOKS REMEMBERED BY HIS NEIGHBORS

At 1010 WINS "the news watch never stops." so when legendary newsman Stan Brooks, our City Hall reporter died, I was sent to the building he lived in, Manhattan Plaza, to talk to his neighbors. Among them, comedian Kenny Kramer who recounts a story his friend, Stan, told him about the day he was approached as news director of then WINS - a very popular music station, and was told they were switching formats to all news. Kramer says Stan had no idea what that meant. But as we all know now, as its first news director, Stan was instrumental in shaping the 1010 WINS we all know today.

Kramer also remembers sitting in the Jacuzzi talking politics with Stan and telling him he was going to run for mayor. Stan's sage advice?: "Get out of politics!"

More from 1010 WINS.
