Whenever there’s a mass shooting the call for increased gun control is renewed. The argument: Fewer guns in the hands of the wrong people will reduce this carnage in the United States.
The counterargument: When you control guns only outlaws will have them.
Obviously there is a problem in the United States with the proliferation of guns and the amount of gun violence. But can new laws really make a difference.
One only needs to look at Chicago for a case to illustrate when discussing this issue. A total of 40 people were shot, five fatally, this past weekend in Chicago:

The problem is so bad, that the feds are pledging to step in and help:

But Chicago has the some of the toughest gun laws on the books. You can’t even buy a gun – legally that is – in the Windy City:
