Crane drops load on subway tracks in Queens

"Thank god no train was coming by when this happened."

That's how one MTA worker called to the scene assessed the situation. After a crane working on a building alongside the Number 7 subwaytracks here at Roosevelt and College Point Blvd. lost control of its load.  Dumping it in the tracks below.  Sparking a small fire.

One person here who didn't see it but heard it thought it was a bomb as the sound echoed between buildings and then the smoke began to rise.  "Like what you see on TV in Syria or Iraq," he said.

I'm on the scene in Flushing Queens for 1010 WINS.
