This is a story I'm reporting on Fox News Headlines 24/7 on SiriusXM 115.
A rash of violent crimes in Chicago. Not in gang-infested neighborhoods. But near the popular beaches along the city 's famed Lakeshore Drive.
Now police are out with a plan to fight it.
The latest - the shootings of two people near Foster beach. Many beach goers, like Marty Calkins, say, they go there to relax - but must still remain on guard.
"My daughters are there working out, they're doing training for a triathlon," Calkins says, "and you got worry about the kid's safety because of all these shootings."
The police are stepping up patrols - in cars and on bicycles. Hoping that deters future violent crime. But beach goer Vanessa Greenway's not so sure.
"I don't know that they're always in the right place at the right time and I'm sure that the violence that's happening can be prevented with more police presence," Greenway says.
There've been six recent shootings and stabbings along Chicago's lake front.
