Rising waters due to rain are threatening to breach a dam in Virginia and evacuations have been ordered.
Emergency officials say some water is already overflowing the College Lake Dam in Lynchburg. They say the areas being evacuated would flood if the dam bursts.
Lynchburg is in the Blue Ridge Mountains about 50 miles east of Roanoke.
The National Weather Services says water levels could reach 17 feet in just 7 minutes if the dam breaks and there’d be a deluge of water running through homes and businesses.
Making maters worse, more rain is in today’s forecast.
